Ala Archa gorge
The amazing place for weekend tours is Ala Archa gorge. It is placed about 45 km from Bishkek city, and during one hour drive you will rise from 750 to 2100 meters above sea level. The name Ala-Archa signifies Colourful Juniper. Junipers grow everywhere in gorge. For Kyrgyz it is a sacred tree that they use almost in all their rituals. When a child born it has a cradle made of juniper, when he is ill adults burn it nearby saying special words, when the child is adult already and wants to merry - again a woman with burning juniper will go inside his new yurt to protect it from bad spirits. If you like horse ride, you can a have horse riding program in Chon Kemin. It takes almost two hours there. Horses always played an important part in Kyrgyz life. They used to say that horses are man's wings. It is impossible to imagine a nomad without a horse. Burana Tower was built in 11 century. There was a successful city on the Great Silk Road - Balasagun. A lot of traders were coming to that place to sell their good and spend a night. There is a Tower that is 24 meters high now. At that time it was 45 meters high but because of the earthquake in 15 century it fell down. This tower was used as a sign for travelers and traders, as a watching tower and as a place to call local people to pray. After the earthquake in the 15 century people were scared to stay in the city. They thought that God damned that place. That is way all inhabitants left the city in a hurry. Our archeologist found many artifacts there and you can see some of them in a local museum. Some artifacts were taken to Russian in Soviet time. The houses and structures in Balasagun were made of clay and they melt on account of time. At the present you can see only the tower and a hill nearby that is conjectured to be khan's palace. Read the tour...
